  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar (plus extra for coating)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil (for frying, about 2 inches deep)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, heat water and butter over medium heat until boiling. Stir in sugar and salt until dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat, add flour all at once, and stir vigorously until smooth. Let cool slightly before adding eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Pipe dough into hot oil in strips and fry until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  5. Drain churros on paper towels and roll in cinnamon-sugar mixture while warm.
  6. For the dipping sauce, heat cream until simmering, then pour over chocolate chips and stir until melted and smooth.
