Ingredients
- 2 lbs russet potatoes (sliced thin)
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Fresh thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Slice russet potatoes into thin rounds (about 1/8 inch thick).
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until heated but not boiling.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potato slices. Pour half of the cheese sauce over them and sprinkle with half the cheese mix.
- Repeat layering with remaining potatoes, cheese sauce, and top with remaining cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
