- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the elbow macaroni in salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add sliced onions and sauté for about 10 minutes until softened and translucent.
- Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until tender.
- Drizzle balsamic vinegar over the onion-mushroom mixture and simmer for two minutes.
- In a saucepan, melt more butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth, then gradually add whole milk while whisking until thickened (about five minutes). Stir in shredded cheddar until melted.
- Combine cooked pasta with the onion-mushroom mix and pour over the cheese sauce. Mix well and transfer to a greased baking dish if desired.
