- 3 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warmed milk and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes. Stir in melted butter, sugar, egg yolks, and salt. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Toss apples with sugar and cinnamon; set aside. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle.
- Spread softened butter over the dough; add apple mixture evenly. Roll tightly into a log and pinch seams closed.
- Cut the log lengthwise and twist halves into a braid; place in a greased loaf pan to rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 45 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before slicing.
