  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup almond paste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Sliced almonds (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk with yeast and sugar until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add melted butter and egg yolks, then knead until smooth.
  3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least two hours.
  4. Roll out chilled dough into a rectangle, pound cold butter flat, and place it on one part of the dough.
  5. Fold the dough over the butter like closing a book, then roll out again into a larger rectangle and cut into triangles.
  6. Spread almond paste on each triangle, roll from base to tip, and place on lined baking sheets.
  7. Brush with egg wash and bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
