  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz cream cheese (room temperature)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two greased and parchment-lined 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add buttermilk and vanilla until combined.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients; fold in dark chocolate chips.
  5. Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans before transferring to a wire rack.
  6. Whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form; blend cream cheese with powdered sugar and fold in whipped cream to make frosting.
  7. Assemble by layering cakes with frosting in between; frost the top and sides as desired.
