  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Stir in the sugar until well combined.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before mixing in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  4. Sift together cocoa powder, flour, cinnamon, and chili powder; fold into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. If desired, fold in nuts before pouring the batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until edges firm up but center remains slightly gooey; check doneness with a toothpick.
